Matobo Hills National Park

The Matobos National Park is less than 75km south of Bulawayo, and easily reached from there on a good tarred road. The area is a World Heritage site, and famous for its balancing granite rocks. Baboons and monkeys are frequent sights, and it has the largest concentration of leopard in the country. However these animals are secretive and rarely seen. The whole Matopos National Park area is protected and fenced. Within the National Park is the small Game Park where Rhinos have been relocated from Hwange; because of its small size, you are almost bound to come across rhinos at close range. Fees for entry are payable at the entrance gates, dependent on the number of folks in your vehicle and its size. Whilst you don't absolutely need a 4x4 vehicle, it helps - avoid using a car with a low wheel base. There is a fine place to stay at Ingwe Lodge in the vicinity, on the way back to Bulawayo.
