Zambia's Victoria Falls |
As the Zambezi River crashes 100 m into a chasm stretching 1,7 km in length, one of the world's most spectacular waterfalls is created, the Victoria Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mosi-oa-Tunya or "The Smoke that Thunders" was how the local people described it and explorers were equally spellbound - "Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight" wrote Sir David Livingstone, the first European to explore the area in 1855.
